Musculoskeletal Health

Having good musculoskeletal health means that muscles, joint and bones work together without pain, this in turn supports your mobility, balanace and co-ordination.

Most people experience some kind of musculoskeletal issue in their lifetime so it's important that we do all we can at work to prevent these issues, and support you if you have them.

Conditions related to your Musculoskeletal health include:

  • Joint Conditions (arthiritis)
  • Bone Conditions (osteoporosis)
  • Spinal Disorrders (sciatica)
  • Regional and widespread pain disorders (fibromyalgia)
  • Musculoskeletal injuries (strains and sprains)
  • Genetic, congenital and developmental childhood disorders (scoliosis)
  • Multisystem inflammatory diseases (lupus)

Video Resources

The NHS has video guides for different parts of the body which can help prevent MSK issues. You don't have to have a diagnosed condition to benefit from regularly stretching and using these videos as a guide.

DSE

All employees must undertake a DSE assessment which will assess the safety of their work set up and mitigate risk. This includes the prevention of MSK issues as well as things like your eyesight. Everyone should have one of these for both working in the office and also for working at home. If you have a concern about your DSE assessment, please discuss with your line manager.

Step Challenge

Getting moving more often throughout the work day can help your musculoskeletal health, that's one of the reasons we're launching the Step Challenge. Check in with Sarah for more information on how to get involved.
