Getting Moving

Sometimes the word "fitness" can make people feel like out of place or remind them of the bleep test in secondary school P.E. In realtity when we talk about fitness in the Guild for our staff team, we're talking about keeping our bodies healthy and keeping them moving.

Physical activity can include a broad range of activity that gets your body moving and your heart pumping. You should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity of bouts of just 10 minutes or more, each week.

This could include:

  • Walking
  • Cycling
  • Gardening
  • Hiking
  • Dancing
  • Swimming
  • Doing your favourite hobbie like playing football or tennis

There are a tonne of benefits to doing regular physical activity including:

  • Supporting your mental health
  • Positively supporting your Musculoskeletal health
  • Boost your self esteem
  • Help you to concentrate more
  • Decreasing your risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Decreasing your risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Decreasing your risk of colon cancer and breast cancer
  • Decreasing your risk of hip fractures

We're hosting our Step Challenge and weekly Lunch & Walks to encourage you to take time out of your work day to get moving and increase your physical activity.
