EDI Student Reps
In the academic year 2026/27, the Guild will introduce a reformed student rep system to help facilitate student voice from our most underrepresented or marginalised student members. This refreshed structure is built on the experiences, growth, and lessons from the last three years of building student representation across the broader demographic. It will sit under the voice and campaign structure within the Guild, with the ability to help shape and inform the University’s policies, including supporting the Guild in developing its membership EDI structures.
The new Student EDI Reps will represent student voice on issues related to their specific student community and lived experience. The reps’ remit will thus focus primarily on representing the communities they are part of, which includes serving on the University’s student EDI forum, being a voting member of the Student Council, and attending the Equality and Wellbeing Officer’s EDI catch-up/assembly. In addition to the representation function, the role will involve working and supporting the full-time and part-time Officers’ campaigns or projects, and setting up their own individual campaigns with the support of the Guild to help fulfil their manifesto goals.

Expectations
The Student EDI Reps are expected to meet with the Full-time Wellbeing and Equality Officer at least twice per semester. In the academic year, that would be at least four times. The meeting sessions will mirror the Liberation Assemblies of the previous year; however, the format and meeting points can be informal.
The Student EDI Reps will be mandated to sit on the Student EDI Forum as well as be voting members for the Guild’s Student Council. There will be an expectation that they attend both as part of their role.
As part of their onboarding, the Student EDI Reps will be given substantial training from the Inclusion and Campaigns Manager and the Equality and Wellbeing Officer. The Student EDI Reps will have the opportunity to meet with the former as part of their continuous professional development – they will be expected to meet with the Inclusion and Campaigns Manager at least once per semester, as part of their check-in, to discuss developmental progress as student leaders.
The Student EDI Reps will be encouraged to set up a casual community network. The purpose of this would be to help the Reps meet members of their own community and help support the wider development of their projects or campaigns. The Guild will be able to help facilitate the session’s infrastructure by setting up events, sign-up sheets, and room bookings (though there will be broader expectations that network sessions do not need to take place on campus; both on-campus and off-campus as well as digital meetings will be options).

Role Description:
Election
The Equality and Wellbeing Officers have agreed that all Student EDI Reps be elected through Canvas. To ensure the elections are fair, they will follow the election bylaws and any other applicable Guild practices and policies.
Students will be asked to self-identify to vote. They will do this on Canvas once they land on the election page.
Nominees will be able to submit their manifesto to the Guild. The Guild will then upload them to our website as part of the election process. Nominees must complete candidate training as part of running in the Student EDI Rep election.

- Nomination & manifesto submissions opens: 12th October 2026 (9:00am)
- Nomination & manifesto submission closes: 16th October 2026 (9:00am)
- Deadline to complete candidate training: 19th October 2026 (12:30pm)
- Campaigning & voting: 20st October 2026 (9:00am) – 23th October 2026 (10:00am)
