Access Participation Plan Focus Group

Background

The access participation plan (APP) sets out how the University will improve Equality of Opportunity in Higher Education. The goal of the plan is to ensure students have equal of opportunity in access, success in and progression in Higher Education. UCB Guild of Students will be supporting the Universities APP or 2024 onwards.

What does this mean for you?

The University is working on identifying which students they need to support more, and how they can do this. There are 3 main groups of students they are going to look at supporting more – Black students, Asian men, and students who received free school meals.

What we think is really important, is that they listen to these students about how they can support them more – whether its with the cost of attending UCB, with how teaching is done, or with something else.

How can I participate?

As the student representative body, we will be making a submission to the University about what things they can do to help these students more, and we’d really like to hear from you if you are in one of those groups so you have a voice in them designing support packages.

If you are in one of those groups and would like to come to a focus group and tell us what we should be asking them to do, and what your experience at UCB is like, please sign up to the corresponding session below:

These sessions are only for home students from the UK, but we are also doing work with the international office on running another session for international students next month, and will send information about that out nearer to the time.
